OnlineCondoleance.com, developed by De Jongens van Boven

Some projects call for more than strategy, design, and technology alone. They call for attention, empathy, and respect. OnlineCondoleance.com is one of those projects.

Together with professionals from the funeral industry, we developed a digital solution that enriches funerals, preserves memories, and truly supports those left behind. Not a concept for show, but a platform that is used every day at real funerals, by real people, in moments that truly matter.

From farewell to lasting memory

OnlineCondoleance.com adds three interconnected elements to the funeral experience:

  • a personal funeral website
  • a digital condolence register, both online and on location
  • a fully automatically produced hardcover memorial book

Together, they form one continuous experience - before, during, and after the funeral.

Before the funeral: a personal digital starting point

Prior to the funeral, the deceased is registered in the web software. With just a few clicks, a tasteful funeral website is automatically created, fully in the visual identity of the funeral director.

On this website, visitors can find practical information about the funeral and leave a personal message or memory through an online condolence register. The website is secure, GDPR-compliant, and optimized for mobile, tablet, and desktop. By adding photos, each page becomes unique and personal.

If desired, a livestream can also be enabled, allowing people who are unable to attend in person to follow the farewell live or watch it later.

During the funeral: the digital condolence register

During the funeral, interactive kiosks with tablets replace the traditional condolence book. Visitors can leave their name and a personal message in an intuitive and accessible way.

No loose notes, no illegible handwriting, but a respectful, modern way of offering condolences that fits perfectly with our time.

After the funeral: everything comes together

After the funeral, the funeral website remains online for some time. Relatives and loved ones can calmly leave messages and reread them. The condolences are not publicly visible but are shared exclusively with the immediate family.

And then the most important part happens.

All names and messages - both online and those left at the on-site kiosks - are fully automated and brought together in a beautifully designed hardcover memorial book. Photos of the deceased and/or the funeral are combined with the personal words of family, friends, and acquaintances.

The result is a tangible, lasting tribute. A book that offers comfort, provides strength, and is cherished.

Designed to take the burden off

The software was developed with one key principle in mind: simplicity for the funeral director. The required information largely overlaps with what is already needed to organize the funeral and produce the printed materials. As a result, using the platform takes hardly any extra time, while the impact for bereaved families is significant.

Developed together, made with care

OnlineCondoleance.com was created through an intensive collaboration between funeral professionals and De Jongens van Boven. Our role covered strategy, UX, design, and the development of the complete web software and digital experience.

For the production of the memorial book, we collaborate with a specialized publishing house that exclusively produces high-quality, sewn hardcover books. Quality was not a side note here, but a requirement.

Digital technology with a human purpose

This project shows what we believe in: using technology to add real meaning. Not innovating for the sake of innovation, but making moments that truly matter better, warmer, and more personal.

OnlineCondoleance.com is now used at funerals throughout the Netherlands. And time and again, it proves that digital solutions can also be gentle, respectful, and comforting.
